SkinMedica® AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser is described as a rejuvenating cleansing treatment with alpha-hydroxy and beta-hydroxy acids that promises to improve the appearance of skin texture, tone, and smoothness by exfoliating dead skin.
Winter is drawing to a close, and if you are anything like millions of other people in the U.S., your skin is dry right now, just like mine. My T-zone area and brows are flaky, peeling, dry, and rough. My favorite moisturizer is simply not enough to combat winter’s wrath, so I picked up a bottle of SkinMedica® AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser from an aesthetic doctor’s office in my area. After experiencing wonderful customer service from the ladies who worked there, I was elated to get home with my tube of AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser. It was well needed.
The texture of the cleanser is like a gel, with swirls of white eco-friendly microbeads. The exfoliant is a very fine grit, which makes for an even, thorough exfoliation. Exfoliants with larger grit tend to damage the skin, and they do not always slough off the dead skin, and this is ultimately the goal.
I moistened my skin with some warm water, applied a small amount to my fingertips, added a little water, and cleansed my face in a circular motion. I’ll admit I put a little extra friction in my trouble area, which happens to be the T-Zone, as it gets very dry and flaky. After exfoliating, I rinsed.
After my skin was dry it felt very soft and smooth, but tight. I immediately grabbed my moisturizer, and my skin felt fantastic. While you can use this cleanser twice a day, AM and PM, I use it PM only because it contains AHA, which can lead to sunburn, and I like my best cleansing to be at night. If you choose to use AM and PM, be sure to use a sunscreen and limit sun exposure while using this cleanser.
Overall, SkinMedica® AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser is excellent. I was most impressed with the superfine, gentle microbeads. They eliminated every speck of dry skin when combined with the AHA. This cleanser retails for $45. It is available in select med spas, dermatologist, and plastic surgery offices but don’t fret, you do not have to get a treatment to purchase this product. It is over-the-counter in their office. Don’t forget about the Brilliant Distinctions® program either— you can earn valuable points on this purchase and other SkinMedica® products and peels.
